CRUUUUUUNCHIn Rondônia, energy generated by thermal plants accounts for 70% of total installed capacity, while large hydros account for 23% and small hydro only accounts for 7%. Thermal energy generation is the major mode of energy generation in Rondônia. As a result, the trend in that region is toward the installation of fossil fuel units rather than hydro units. Rondônia is dependent on fossil fuels.
The Rio Floresta d'Oeste Project, located in a rural section of the Brazilian state of Rondonia, is a small run-of-river hydroelectric plant with a capacity of 5 MW. This hydroelectric project supplies a clean supply of energy to the municipality of Alta Floresta d'Oeste's local grid, which runs independently of the national grid of Brazil. The project activity saves approximately 28,000 tons of CO₂eq emissions each year, as the clean electricity provided by the project contributes to lowering the carbon intensity of the country's electric mix.
